Thinktank Social pitched and won the social media element of the CFA’s 2011 / 2012 Fire awareness campaign, aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of bushfires and encouraging people to create a fire plan.

Reporting to the Federal Department of Justice, we created a Facebook ‘My Plan’ application allowing users to creating and share their fire plan in a simple, quick and easy to complete format. Completion of this plan is one of the main campaign objectives and previously, only way to do this was to download an 80 page document from the CFA website.

We chose to build this within Facebook to harness the 90,000 strong community that the CFA already has and for Facebook’s shareable functionality allowing users to recommend the app and to share details of their own fire plan with the community.

Features of the app include the ability to create a unique profile for the user and include family / friends / neighbours, a simple 5 steps to complete your fire plan, fire warnings streamed from the CFA website and displayed as per the users location, a badge system rewarding each step of the process to completing the users plan, the ability to post and share from within the app and an activity stream showing other users.

After commencement we were also contracted to complete a Facebook ‘Traveller’s Checklist’ and accessible versions of both apps that are hosted on the CFA website.

Thinktank social has also been contracted to raise awareness of the app online (to start 2012), which we will do by identifying influencers to help cross promote and by further promoting with local area Facebook pages.
